One of the joys of sailing: arriving at a restaurant by dinghy. You moor, you walk up, you eat. No car, no queue. Here are our favorite waterfront tavernas — the ones we keep going back to.

Meganisi (Ionian): To Steki tou Yanni

Vathi Bay. Family-run, simple, excellent. They have a playground — perfect for families. Order the grilled fish, the Greek salad, the fried zucchini. €25–35 per person. The owners are lovely. We've been coming for years.

Fiskardo (Kefalonia): Tassia

On the waterfront. Tassia's is an institution. Fresh fish, Greek classics. €30–40 per person. It gets busy — book or arrive early. The harbor is beautiful; the food matches.

Hydra: Omilos

Waterfront, candlelit. More upscale than the average taverna. Great for a special evening. €35–50 per person. Hydra is chic; Omilos fits the vibe.

Symi: Tholos

In the harbor. Traditional Greek, good prices. €25–35. The view of the pastel buildings is stunning. We've had countless sunset dinners here.

Pollonia (Milos): Omega 3

Right on the beach. The freshest seafood. €30–40. Pollonia is one of our favorite villages in the Cyclades. Omega 3 is why.

Naoussa (Paros): Siparos

In the old port. Fish, meze, good wine. €30–40. Naoussa is busy in summer; Siparos is worth the wait.

Sivota (Mainland): Zorbas

On the waterfront. Reliable, good portions. €25–35. Sivota is a popular anchorage; Zorbas is a solid choice.

Kioni (Ithaca): To Steki

Small village, big flavors. €25–35. Kioni is one of the prettiest harbors in the Ionian. To Steki is the local favorite.

Lakka (Paxos): Vasilis

Paxos is green, Italian-influenced. Vasilis does Greek with a twist. €30–40. Lakka is a perfect bay — quiet, beautiful.

Our All-Time Favorites

Vasile: To Steki tou Yanni — the grilled octopus. Nicoleta: Tholos in Symi — the view, the simplicity. Together: Omega 3 in Pollonia — we had our anniversary there.

Mooring Near Tavernas

Some tavernas offer free mooring for diners. Ask when you call to book. Others have quays nearby — you anchor and dinghy in. Always check the holding — some bays have poor holding. And in summer, popular spots fill up. Arrive by 6 PM if you want a good spot.

The joy of arriving by boat: you've earned that dinner. You sailed there. You dropped anchor. You swam. Now you eat. It doesn't get better than that.
